In this module, students will explore structural and functional anatomy of the lower lumbar and thoracic spine and revisit anatomy covered in M1, particularly the anatomy of the pelvis as it relates to the spine. Students will also explore the anatomy of the diaphragm and core, and come to understand the inherent vulnerabilities of the core and spine. Students will practice teaching and adjusting in small groups to continue to refine efficacy and delivery of cueing and become skillful with hands-on assists.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to work with lower back and core dysfunction, pain, and injury
  • Learn how to understand and communicate the actions of the muscles of the core
  • Learn how to balance flexibility and stability in the spine and core in every category of yoga postures
  • Practice creating and teaching purposeful, effective sequences that focus on backbends, forward bends, twists, and side-bends.

This training is valuable for yoga teachers who want to:
  • Gain confidence in speaking to students about injury prevention and management.
  • Grow one-on-one private instruction clientele.
  • Teach yoga to an athletic population.
  • Advance knowledge and true understanding of postural cues for both basic and advanced postures.
  • Enhance sequencing intelligence and sophistication.
